About me
About me
I began doing counseling work about twenty years ago, through San Francisco Sex Information. As a sexual minority rights activist in San Francisco, I had become interested in sexuality, and had begun to realize that people have serious need for accurate, honest information and nonjudgmental counseling. I spent many years with SFSI, as a trainer and in the administration of the organization.
Since then, I have been working in various settings as a counselor and therapist. In addition to my private practice, I have worked at Haight-Ashbury Psychological Services, the Alternative Family Project, the AIDS Health Project, and New Leaf Services. I currently supervise MFT interns at New Leaf Services and HAPS.
I also love to teach, and have taught classes for clinicians, interns, and the general public at Stanford University, San Francisco State University, the Pacific Graduate School of Psychology, the California Institute for Integral Studies, John F. Kennedy University, California State University at Davis, and various other schools and venues. I am a BBS-certified provider of continuing education for MFTs and LCSWs.
I have an MA in clinical psychology, and an MA in human sexuality.
I am a clinical member of AASECT (The American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors & Therapists), WPATH (The World Professional Association for Transgender Health), CAMFT (The California Association of Marriage & Family Therapists), & Gaylesta (The Gay & Lesbian Therapists’ Association).
Outside the office, I am passionate about motorcycles, backcountry camping, and general outdoorsiness. My love of wild places (and wildness in general) brought me to Burning Man in 1996, and I have continued to be involved in the Burning Man community ever since. I am especially dedicated to my volunteer work with the Black Rock Rangers. I also love crosswords, Buddhist philosophy, and experimental music. And I’m a kick-ass blues guitar player.
